The Premise Diagnostic Tool

A Pre-Essay Clarity and Alignment Method for Measured Resonance, HGAA, and ARCTM

Review the Human-Governed AI Authorship Standard
Use before drafting — not after

Know whether your premise is strong enough to carry an essay before you write a single word.

The Premise Diagnostic Tool reveals the strength, clarity, alignment, and viability of an essay premise. It prevents drift, overexplanation, misaligned metaphors, and premature conclusions by examining the premise through the lenses of Measured Resonance, HGAA, and ARC.

Built for writers, essayists, and anyone who wants to begin from a grounded, responsible center rather than discover misalignment mid-draft.

Measured Resonance

Ensures the premise reveals something already present rather than manufacturing importance. Recognition must emerge; it cannot be forced.

HGAA Alignment

Keeps authorship human. Authorship, judgment, and responsibility remain with the writer. AI does not receive agency, intention, or authority.

ARC Alignment

Tests accuracy, reliability, and contextualization. The premise must stay proportionate, grounded in real human experience, and free from distortion.

The Twelve Diagnostic Sections

Step 0

Premise Coherence Check

Before testing anything else, determine whether the premise itself makes conceptual sense. If it does not hold together when stated plainly, the diagnostic pauses here and does not proceed until coherence is established.

Section I

Premise Summary

A short plain-language restatement of the premise. This ensures the idea is visible and not inflated by the language used to express it.

Section II

Core Idea Extraction

List the distinct ideas inside the premise. This reveals what the premise is actually made of, separate from how it sounds.

Section III

Strength Ratings

Each core idea is rated Strong, So-So, or Weak. This identifies what the essay can lean on and what it must avoid or refine before drafting.

Section IV

Missing Angles

What the premise implies but does not yet articulate. These become potential areas of depth, clarity, or necessary qualification.

Section V

Premise Integrity Test

Does the premise reveal rather than manufacture? Does it preserve human judgment and avoid forcing conclusion or action? Measured Resonance is tested here.

Section VI

HGAA Alignment Check

Does the premise keep authorship human? Does it avoid giving AI agency, intention, or authority while maintaining the pause before trust?

Section VII

ARC Alignment Check

Does the premise remain accurate and proportionate? Is it grounded in real human experience and free from exaggeration or distortion?

Section VIII

Metaphor Stability Test

If the premise uses metaphor, does it hold under scrutiny? Does it avoid false equivalence, overreach, or collapsing into instruction or framework?

Section IX

Scope and Boundary Clarifier

Define what the essay will and will not cover, and what the metaphor can and cannot support. This prevents overreach and protects restraint.

Section X

Reader Recognition Target

What do you want the reader to recognize that they cannot unsee? This identifies the essay’s center of gravity before a word is drafted.

Section XI

Potential Failure Modes

List the predictable risks: overexplanation, metaphor drift, premature conclusion, generic fluency, losing the human moment. This keeps writing disciplined.

Section XII

First-Pass Summary, Purpose & Overview

A short conceptual sketch of what the essay is about, why it exists, and how it will move. This is the scaffolding, not the essay itself.

Who it is for

  • Essay writers who want to begin from clarity, not assumption
  • Writers working within HGAA and ARC frameworks
  • Anyone stress-testing a premise before committing to a full draft
  • Educators and researchers evaluating premise rigor and alignment

Governing principle

A premise should not need inflated language to seem meaningful. If it loses force when stated plainly, the idea may not yet be ready. The Premise Diagnostic Tool begins here because alignment cannot repair incoherence.

This tool does not generate the essay. It ensures the premise can support one.

Ready to begin

Write your premise. Run it through the diagnostic. Draft with confidence.

Apply the Premise Diagnostic Tool to any essay premise before drafting. Adjust where needed. Only begin writing once the premise is stable, aligned, and grounded.
